Agreement secured for commercial orbital tests

The European Commission and European Space Agency have signed an agreement to provide in-orbit testing facilities for companies.

In a statement on 16 April, the European Commission said companies would be able to pay to use European rockets and ground services to launch prototype satellites into orbit for testing.

Industry commissioner Elżbieta Bieńkowska said it was necessary to test new technologies in orbit to “foster an innovative European space sector”.
