Governments of 25 European countries have signed a declaration committing to actions that will spur more girls and women into learning and using digital technology.
The declaration, which was signed on 9 April, recognises that gender stereotyping limits opportunities for females in science, technology, engineering and mathematics studies and related careers, and that both they and Europe suffer as a result.
It commits the signatories to implement national strategies for increasing gender equality in digital technology, for example by guaranteeing access to relevant study opportunities. It also commits them to initiatives such as establishing an EU-wide day for raising awareness of women in STEM, and promoting non-discriminatory work cultures.
