Defence and space agencies team up on drones and AI

Collaboration set to deepen as space grows in importance for defence and security

The European Defence Agency and European Space Agency are undertaking two new joint research projects: one using drones to monitor borders or assess radioactive and chemical threats, and the other using artificial intelligence for navigation.

ESA, which works closely with the EU but is not an EU agency, has more than €5 million invested in shared projects with the EDA, which is an EU agency.
