Funding calls opened in search for coronavirus treatments

Calls come as outbreak is declared an international public health emergency

The European Commission and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) have both opened funding calls for research to develop treatments for the rapidly spreading novel respiratory virus 2019-nCoV.

Both calls opened on 30 January and offer support to develop a vaccine for the virus, which can cause mild symptoms through to fatal pneumonia. It has now killed at least 213 people and infected almost 10,000 people in 18 countries since breaking out in China in late 2019.
