Commission to create executive agency for innovation

Brussels-based European Innovation Agency will oversee EU programmes including Horizon Europe

The European Commission is creating a sixth semi-autonomous executive agency to finesse and fine-tune the EU’s various grant-giving innovation programmes.

The Commission told Research Professional News it has also “realigned” the mandates of its five existing executive agencies for the upcoming 2021-27 spending cycle to better fit the political priorities of Commission president Ursula von der Leyen on issues including climate change and innovation.
