New EU space programme means money for launchers, but ‘constraints’ on Earth observation
Launcher R&D is to be one of several priorities of the European Commission’s 2021 space strategy, the Commission has said, but it warned that the EU’s Copernicus Earth-observation satellite programme will face a budget squeeze.
Speaking at a virtual space policy conference on 12 January, industry commissioner Thierry Breton said the EU’s first comprehensive space programme, for 2021-27, will channel money into launcher R&D.
