Traditional research powers produced diversity of Covid R&D

Western European countries have fared well in generating comprehensive research responses to the pandemic

Countries with established and diverse research sectors had R&D responses to the Covid-19 pandemic that spanned more disciplines and were “more agile”, according to an analysis of scholarly publications.

Analytics company Clarivate* looked at more than 67,000 Covid-related research publications from the G20 group of 19 countries and the European Union on Covid-19, ahead of this year’s G20 summit taking place in Rome (pictured), Italy on October 30-31. Collectively, members of the G20 spend 93 per cent of total global investment on R&D.
