Institute would aim to apply emerging quantum technologies to tackling societal challenges
Europe’s organisation for nuclear research, Cern, is backing plans to create a new international institute in its home city of Geneva, Switzerland, aimed at translating emerging quantum technologies into real-world applications that benefit society.
Plans for the Open Quantum Institute are being coordinated by Gesda, the Geneva Science and Diplomacy Anticipator Foundation, and already have support from the University of Geneva, the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology in Zurich and Lausanne, and US computing giants Microsoft and IBM.
