Chips Joint Undertaking public-private partnership plans to use €11 billion to compete on semiconductor leadership
The EU has launched its long-planned public-private partnership intended to bridge gaps between research, innovation and production of semiconductors, as part of its efforts to gain more control over the vitally important components of digitisation.
The Chips Joint Undertaking, launched on 30 November, is the main means for implementing the EU Chips for Europe Initiative—a €15.8 billion plan to make the bloc less dependent on countries elsewhere for the design and manufacture of microchips, which are vital for industries from car manufacturing to artificial intelligence services.
