Czech award for Irish engineer

Ivor McElveen has become the first Irish citizen to receive the Gratias Agit Award, a distinction presented by the Czech government to honour those who have contributed to society and promoted the Czech Republic abroad.

It was presented at the Czernin Palace in Prague on 14 October and marks McElveen’s contribution in assisting economic and administrative reform since his arrival in Prague in 1990. He is one of 12 recipients announced for the award in 2011.
