The budget allocation for the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation has been maintained for 2012 despite the imposition of severe cutbacks in other government departments.
Enterprise minister Richard Bruton said the budget protection would help Ireland grow out of the economic downturn. He was commenting on the details of the 2012 budget released on 5 December in which his department saw its capital allocation rise by four per cent to its “highest ever level”. Current spending is down slightly to €366 million.
