Government looks to space to boost jobs and exports

The government is hoping to create jobs and increase exports through its links with the European Space Agency.

It plans to invest about €17 million a year in ESA programmes, the minister of state for research said on 21 November at the end of an ESA ministerial council meeting in Naples, Italy. The investment had the potential to double space industry-related exports from €27m in 2011 to €56m by 2015, he said. The target for jobs is 2,000 by 2015, up from 1,570 in 2011.
