The state is to invest €175 million in a fresh initiative to roll out faster broadband services, with a particular effort to deliver higher download speeds to small towns and rural areas.
Communications minister Pat Rabbitte announced details of the plan at a media briefing on 30 August. ‘Delivering a Connected Society – A National Broadband Plan for Ireland’ envisages delivering data speeds of between 70 and 100 megabits per second to more than half the population by 2015.
