Senior researchers from Trinity College Dublin and from National University of Ireland Maynooth have received “advanced grant” awards from the European Research Council worth a combined €5 million over the next five years.
The two were among 302 award recipients announced by the Council on 23 January, with total expenditure for this round reaching €680m, the European Commission office in Dublin said.
Trinity’s Peter Humphries will use the funds to expand his research into novel treatments for the eye disease glaucoma. Robert Kitchin at Maynooth is working on the creation of smart cities to improve the quality of urban life.
