Fresh government funding for digital research centre

Ireland’s government is to put €17.5 million into the National Digital Research Centre over the next five years in support of its efforts to back new digital ventures and create jobs.

Minister for communications Pat Rabbitte announced the funding deal on 25 September, when he also released the centre’s 2012 annual report. He praised the centre’s success “in translating innovative digital research into commercial returns”.

The centre has created more than 250 jobs in ventures it backed over the past five years, according to the report. The minister added that another 50 jobs would come before the end of the year.
