PhD student Alan Ryan has won a scholarship worth €10,000 from the international representative body for engineers the Institute of Engineering and Technology.
Ryan is based at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and developed an artificial blood vessel from polymer biomaterials. He conducts his research in the Amber materials science centre at Trinity College Dublin.
His 2014 Postgraduate Scholarship for an Outstanding Researcher, announced on 19 November, will allow him to continue his postdoctoral research in a major international institute, he said.
