Inform Bioscience has won €50,000 from the SME Instrument of the Horizon 2020 research budget to develop a urine test that helps in the early diagnosis of pre-eclampsia.
The money will be used to produce a commercial development plan. The technology, which detects the renal damage associated with pre-eclampsia, was licensed from the Mayo Clinic in the US by Inform Bioscience, which is a subsidiary of Metabolomic Diagnostics based in Cork.
The EU instrument was introduced to help small firms bring ideas developed in the laboratory onto the market, according to a statement from the Irish European Commission office issued on 9 April.
