Ireland records its best performance in innovation rankings

Ireland has achieved its highest performance yet in the European Innovation Scoreboards ranking of how well a country develops and applies innovation.

With a result 13 per cent above the European Union average, Ireland is placed in the “strong innovator” category, the second highest group on the scoreboard, said a statement from the Commission office in Dublin on 7 May.

Ireland’s improvement was built on innovations related to graduate performance in doctorates and in second- and third-level education generally. The country’s ability to raise licence and patent revenues from abroad rose 28 per cent on the previous scoreboard, and its international scientific publication rate rose by 7.7 per cent, the Commission office said.
