More Irish companies getting involved in research

The number of companies tapping into academic research to increase their business rose by 46 per cent in 2014, according to the 2014 annual report of Knowledge Transfer Ireland.

The report, published on 11 June, found that more than 2,300 agreements were struck between companies and state-funded research organisations in 2014.

A total of 27 spinout companies were formed on the back of research organisations’ finding, the report said. There were also 168 licences, options and other IP-based transactions between companies and research providers, an increase of 21 per cent.
