The Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute based in Belfast has announced a cross-border environmental recovery programme worth €8.1 million to improve the environment along the Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland border and in western Scotland.
Known as the Collaborative Action for the Natura Network (CANN), it will receive funding under the EU’s Interreg programme, the institute announced on 7 June.
The Newry, Mourne and Down District Council will lead the project and participants include government agencies and departments, local authorities, research institutes and others.
