Undergraduate student wins engineering award

Aron Purser, a third-year student at the Institute of Technology Carlow, has won the annual Engineers Ireland Innovative Student Engineer of the Year Award for 2017.

Purser is a mechanical engineering undergraduate and his prize was based on his design for a forklift lifting device that can be used in the agricultural and construction sectors, an event at Engineers Ireland headquarters in Dublin on 9 June heard.

The design has already been taken up by a company in Kildare.
