Dublin City University’s Water Institute is to lead a €2-million water-quality monitoring project funded by Interreg Europe.

The three-year Monitool project, announced on 1 August, will look for metal pollutants in coastal and inland watercourses. Blánaid White, from Dublin City, will head up the collaboration which includes 15 research partners in six EU states including Spain, the UK, Portugal, France Italy and Ireland.

Partners in Ireland include the Environmental Protection Agency and the Marine Institute. The project will develop technologies to help measure the levels of metal pollutants in our waterways.
