Government acts to widen access path to higher education

The Higher Education Authority has issued a call for proposals from Ireland’s higher education institutions under a €16.5-million funding programme designed to improve access to higher education.

The programme is expected to support more than 2,000 students including at least 200 lone parents. It aims to widen access to higher education over the coming three years, the Department of Education said in a statement.

The call for innovative ways to widen access, issued on 23 August, is open to the five existing higher-education clusters—groupings that link universities and institutes of technology on a regional basis.
