Interest in school physics down north of border but up in south

The numbers of students in Northern Ireland who sat A-level physics has continued to decline with a nine per cent drop during 2017, but the numbers in the Republic of Ireland taking the subject at leaving-certificate level continues on an upward trend.

The number of students taking A-level physics in Northern Ireland has dropped by 18 per cent since 2013.

Comparable figures for the leaving certificate, released on 16 August, show the reverse of this situation with an 18 per cent rise over the same period.
