Cybercrime remains a continuing threat to companies in Ireland, according to a study released by the representative body for small businesses.
Some 81 per cent of businesses had been a victims of IT attacks over the past 12 months, and the number of virus infections and so called ransoms are both rising, said the e-crime report released on 15 September.
The Irish Small and Medium Enterprises Association has called on the government to help companies by providing improved training and facilities for the Gardai and for the establishment of a specialised group to tackle this type of criminality.
