Maynooth University is to host a drone technology centre known as U-Flyte that will seek to develop relevant technologies to advance the use and applications of drones.
The initiative has €6.3 million available—€1.8m from state research funder Science Foundation Ireland and €4.5m from industry delivered as cash and in-kind investment—the foundation said in a statement issued on 26 March.
Tim McCarthy, an Earth observation researcher at Maynooth’s department of computer science, will head U-Flyte. The participating companies include Airbus, Irelandia Aviation, Intel and 15 other firms.
