Academic boost to Irish economy measures €9bn

The seven universities in the Republic of Ireland contribute €8.89 billion to the Irish economy each year, an analysis has found.

The study, by Indecon International Economic Consultants, revealed that the universities had a total research impact worth €1.5bn on the Irish economy.

The Irish Universities Association commissioned the study and released it on 4 April. It is the first in-depth, evidence-based study of its kind, aimed at providing information about the economic impact of the universities and their activities in education and research.
