€100m for higher education construction projects

Major construction projects on five campuses have received a combined €96.6 million in grants from the government under its Project Ireland 2040 investment programme.

The money will help to support up to 14,000 additional places for students in higher education institutions, the Department for Education and Skills said in a statement on 30 August. The government said it viewed the spending as a strategic investment, given the constantly growing demand for places in tertiary education.

The number of students in full-time higher education in Ireland is expected to increase by more than 38,000 to 222,000 by 2030, the statement said.
