Research minister wants country to join European Organization for Nuclear Research by late 2024

The news was announced by research minister Simon Harris on 14 November, during Science Week, the nationwide festival celebrating science, technology, engineering and maths.

Ireland’s non-membership of Cern has long put it as an outlier in Europe—a list of member states can be found here—and has been a contentious issue in the country’s research for decades, with membership and associated costs often cited as an issue.
