Irish Research eLibrary reports rise in open-access publications

Irish researchers increasingly choosing to publish their research open access

Around 300 more open-access articles were published last year with the support of the Irish Research eLibrary—a consortium of Irish research libraries—than in 2021, according to data published by Irel.

The most recent data from Irel’s agreements with 24 academic publishers show that 3,121 articles were published open access with the support of Irel in 2022, compared with 2,813 articles supported in 2021—the first year Irel entered into agreements with publishers to allow publications from participating Irish higher education institutions to be freely available to any citizen, student or researcher in any country.
