Green light for Venice science campus

Venice is to get its own research and innovation district, which will house a campus, research facilities and student accommodation.

Funding worth €30 million will be used to renovate a complex of historic buildings in the Dorsoduro district, university representatives said during an open day for the project on 3 October. The buildings will form the Campus Santa Chiara, which will also house a science gallery expected to open for exhibits in 2019, before the rest of the building is completed.

“The new campus contributes value to this area of Venice,” said Michele Bugliesi, rector of the Università Ca’ Foscari Venezia, which is based in Dorsoduro and will oversee the campus. “It will bring thousands of available student rooms.”
