Southern Italy leads way for women in STEM

Italy is third in Europe in terms of recruiting female students into science, technology, engineering and mathematics courses, according to a report on the gender gap.

The report, published in April, found that almost 18 per cent of all female students beginning classes in 2017-18 chose a STEM subject. Among the students studying STEM in Italy, 37 per cent are women, compared with an EU average of 32 per cent.

This puts Italy in third place after the UK and Poland, the report, which was published by private education financer Talents Venture, found.
