Student union shares ‘serious concern’ about Italian agency

Fears centre on independence from political interference

The European Students’ Union has voiced “serious concern” over the independence of Italy’s planned new National Agency for Research, which is set to be governed by a board appointed mostly by politicians.

”Universities and institutions must be independent and critical voices in the development of society,” the ESU said in a statement on 15 January, citing UN recommendations on academic independence.
