Alexander van Oudenaarden is sinds 1 september directeur van het Hubrecht Instituut in Utrecht. Hij volgt Hans Clevers op, die zijn functie neerlegde toen hij in juni aantrad als president van de KNAW. Jocelyne Vreede (UvA) krijgt van NWO CW de Athena-premie van 100.000 euro. Cees Snoek (UvA) krijgt de Nederlandse Prijs voor ICT-onderzoek van 50.000 euro. Prof. Willem Vos (UT) is benoemd tot Fellow of the Optical Society. Maria Antonietta Loi (RUG), Pankaj Dhonukshe (UU), Rick Nouwen (UU) en Ewout Frankema (UU) ontvangen een ERC Starting Grant van elk zo’n 1,5 miljoen euro.
