Skew towards targeted research distorts Dutch science, says KNAW
The Netherlands needs to spend more money on blue-sky research in order to balance its science system, according to the KNAW academy of arts and sciences.
On 29 January, the academy issued an advisory document to Ingrid van Engelshoven, the Dutch science minister. The minister had asked the KNAW for advice on the relationship between blue-sky and strategic research, including how other countries balance the two.
