Women beat men in latest Vici call

‘Unprecedentedly large’ difference in favour of women raises hopes of improved gender balance among professors

More women than men have won funding in the latest round of the Vici grant programme, which awards €1.5 million each to talented scientists to start their own research group.

Last month, the Dutch research council NWO announced that it had selected 32 winners out of 242 candidates who applied for the annual grants. Of these, 18 were women and 14 were men.
