Wetsus must secure extra €1.5m a year once ‘bridging finance’ runs out

Talks between the Dutch government and the Wetsus research centre for sustainable water technology have resulted in financing for 2021-22, but the centre has been urged to find structural funding from other sources to secure its future.

Wetsus, established in 2003, is financed through a mixture of public and private sources. It has its own laboratory in Leeuwarden, where PhD students from various universities carry out their research while their professors supervise them remotely. In this way, the centre is able to host multidisciplinary teams for projects that involve up to 100 companies.
