More public engagement makes for better science, says think tank

Report lays out five steps to increase public involvement in Dutch research

Scientists and policymakers in the Netherlands are increasingly focusing on making scientific articles and research data openly accessible, but they are not giving enough attention to the meaningful involvement of the public in scientific research, according to the Rathenau Institute.

The latest report from Rathenau, a think tank that aims to stimulate public debate on science in the Netherlands, says that increased engagement is an important element of open science and could help to solve societal issues more quickly and make science more efficient and effective.
