Research council embraces tools to streamline data management

Dutch funder hopes persistent identifiers will simplify funding applications and research evaluation

The NWO, the Dutch national research council, has adopted a strategy to use persistent identifiers, or PIDs, to manage its publications, data sets, participating organisations and grants.

The introduction of PIDs will take place over the next few years, the funder announced, with the aim of reducing the bureaucratic burden for scientists and making the distribution of knowledge more efficient.
