Extra research funding ‘a question for the next cabinet’, says minister

Dutch science minister responds to recommendations on the national research council’s funding and processes

The Dutch government has refused to commit to a proposal from an evaluation committee that would award extra funding to the country’s main public research funder.

In an official letter to parliament, science minister Ingrid van Engelshoven (pictured) said that any decisions to give more money to the NWO, the Dutch research council, would be left to her successor. The Netherlands held a national election in March but is yet to establish its next government.
