Precarious employment at Dutch universities causes reputational damage and tarnishes student experience
Staff on temporary contracts at Dutch universities face “poor working conditions and an unacceptable burden” due to their precarious employment situation, a report has found.
Commissioned by a group calling itself the Casual Academy, the report found that short-term contracts not only reduce career opportunities for staff but also the quality of education offered at universities. Despite this, the number of people on temporary contracts increased at all Dutch universities between 2015 and 2021, it showed.
