Dutch government launches €5bn higher education funding push

Universities to benefit from budget increase and dedicated science fund intended to improve competitiveness

The Dutch government has kept one of its major coalition promises for science by launching the Research and Science Fund, which will provide around €5 billion for universities in the Netherlands.

The fund, to be invested over the coming decade, is intended to create a “solid foundation for science”, according to the cabinet, by reducing competition between researchers for financing and supporting more excellent science.
