Programme largely failed to improve employability and increased insecurity for Dutch students, evaluation finds
A Dutch pilot programme to take on PhD candidates as students without any employment rights will not be turned into a permanent option after 2024, according to science minister Robbert Dijkgraaf.
The minister made the announcement this week, after receiving the results of an evaluation of a pilot project at the University of Groningen. The project, which started in 2016, allowed the university to contract 1,500 PhD candidates as students without any of the perks or obligations that come with a temporary staff position.
