Research bodies fret over future of Dutch science

Structural support is needed to maintain status as leading research nation, say university associations

The Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, KNAW, and the higher-education association Universities of the Netherlands, UNL, have both urged future cabinets to safeguard the country’s position as a leading research nation.

Their statements reflect concerns about the direction that Dutch politics has taken in the wake of the 22 November election and the unexpected gains by the far-right PVV party.
