Minister accepts finding that science and technology advice could be better linked to societal challenges

The Dutch Advisory Council for Science, Technology and Innovation (AWTI) should put a greater focus on how science can help to achieve social and economic goals, an external evaluation has found.

The AWTI provides independent advice to government and parliament. The Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy take joint responsibility for the council, but the evaluation of its performance from 2019 to 2022 suggests that the council’s remit should go beyond those ministries to better connect science and innovation to major societal goals.
