Academy urges caution over ‘balanced internationalisation’ bill

Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences stresses importance of international collaboration

The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) has advocated for more caution in proposed legislation on internationalisation, after the Council of State largely approved a bill designed to curb the number of international students at Dutch universities. 

“The Netherlands should retain its status as an attractive place for international researchers and students,” the KNAW said. “International research collaboration and an open science system are important for Dutch science and society and the economy of the Netherlands.”
