Oslomet’s green travel rules prioritise cycling or walking

Advice on what constitutes essential travel leaves academics worried about future trips

Oslo Metropolitan University has told its researchers to fly only for “strictly necessary” purposes and consider cycling as the standard for business travel as part of a revised travel expenses policy.

The university’s travel policy was updated on 19 May to clarify changes in what travel expenses academics could claim. The policy gives priority to environmental concerns and sustainability, Oslomet stated—and breaches of the policy could result in employees being unable to claim for expenses.
