Shift in debate could make academic freedom more inclusive and easier to protect, conference hears

Nordic universities have advocated a shift in discourse from academic freedom to a set of academic fundamental values, in order to create a “more inclusive” debate.

A conference in Brussels last month heard that having a set of clearly defined values would support collaboration, create more opportunities for global partnerships and better protect academic freedom. The conference brought together 62 rectors and vice-rectors from universities in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.
