Threats and harassment common in academia, study shows

Swedish survey exposes level of danger faced by researchers, with many considering leaving academia

Researchers and university teachers in Sweden regularly face threats and harassment, an interim report has found.

As a result of being threatened or harassed, nearly one in five academics have thought about leaving academia altogether, the report said. The research—the first of its kind in Sweden—was undertaken jointly by the Swedish Secretariat for Gender Research, the Sulf association of university teachers and researchers and the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions.
