Norwegian research minister Sandra Borch leaves office following allegations she plagiarised her master’s thesis

Sandra Borch, the Norwegian research and higher education minister, resigned on Friday after accusations began to emerge on X (formerly Twitter) that she plagiarised work when she was a master’s student. Specifically, a former fellow student claimed that Borch copied and pasted work into her master’s thesis without crediting it. Borch has accepted responsibility.

“When I wrote my master’s thesis around 10 years ago, I made a big mistake. I took text from other theses without citing the source. As minister for research and higher education, it has been important for me to ensure that we have good regulations for conducting exams. I realise the mistake I have made is not compatible with being responsible for these regulations. I am very sorry for this and am taking the consequences by resigning as minister,” said Borch in a statement to the press.
